Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Group

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in influence within the city.

Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season are included.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the main group to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Given an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be impossible.

This explains, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

According to the DM, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy gameplay experience where diplomatic options are rare.

Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might look unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the team knows exactly where to go next after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—used the foes for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The antagonist then settled his obligations and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each character has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, wants retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows Timmony and advises that it is a nasty environment.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their status as key figures in House Halovar could enable the party reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:

  • Thimble and The character are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.

This means them few options but to journey toward Timmony in search of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight players to form the Questers and Strategists parties.

Fans can look forward to learning which adventurers will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
